Mounting the Group Drive
First open the Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer or an Internet browser such as Firefox, Chrome or similar), please. Windows Explorer is that program / window you use to navigate your computer and look for drives and files. Please open this at the highest level by double-clicking the icon “This PC” on your desktop or right-click on the start icon, then select “Explorer” and double-click the icon “This PC”.
The view then looks something like this:
At the top you will find two tabs: Computer and View. If not already active, please click on the tab “Computer”. At the top of the taskbar you will find then the icon “Map network drive”. Click on it and select “Map network drive” again.
In the mask that opens, select any freely available drive letter at “Drive” and enter the following path at “Folder”: \\cppbsh01.public.ads.uni-freiburg.de\cppbsh01
Then check “Reconnect at login” and “Connect using different credentials” and click “Finish”.
The mask for network registration is opening now. Type in “public \ User-ID” (where user-ID stands for your university user ID (usually your initials and a number)) and below that the corresponding password for the university account (That one you use for logging in at Communigate or at “MyAccount”. Then check the box next to “Remember my credentials” so you don’t have to log in every time you log out of and log in to the PC again.
If you click “Ok”, the connection will be established and the drive will be integrated. You will find numerous folders there. Only to some of them you will get access, others are blocked to you. I also created a separate folder for each of you, to which only you can access (and me as administrator).
And one more hint: If you connect to the university network via VPN client beforehand, you will also get access to the drive from outside of the university (for example, from home).
You will find these instructions - if you do have access or know your account data, yet - on our PharmBioWiki, too.
I hope you get along with this guide and you will succeed with the integration of the drive. If you do have suggestions for improvement to this manual or any questions going along with it, feel free please contact me.
